Brazil is the largest and most populous country in South America, bordering every
South American nation except for Ecuador and Chile. Due to the country's natural
resources and a large labour pool, it is South America's leading economic power and a
regional leader. The official language is Portuguese, exemplifying the influence of
Portugal in Brazilian culture. |

| Brazil is characterized by the extensive low-lying Amazon Rainforest in the north
and a more open terrain of hills and low mountains to the south - home to most of Brazil's
population and its agricultural base. Along the Atlantic seacoast are also several mountain
ranges, reaching roughly 2,900 metres (9,500 ft) high. Major rivers include the Amazon, the
largest river in the world by volume, and the second-longest in the world. Situated mainly
within the tropics, Brazil's climate has little seasonal variation, making it a great
destination to visit. The subtropical south, however, is more temperate, occasionally
experiencing frost and snow. |
|
| Brazil has the largest Catholic population in the world, and is also renowned for the quality
of its football (soccer) players, the most popular sport in Brazil.
